Leave the Campsite Better Than You Found It: Eco-Friendly RVing with Keep Ohio Beautiful

At RCD RV, we know that the best road trips lead to unforgettable moments in Ohio’s beautiful parks, lakes, and campgrounds. While you’re out enjoying the natural beauty of our state, there’s one easy way to make your trip even more meaningful: leave no trace and live green on the go.

Keep Ohio Beautiful is here to help you travel responsibly and camp clean, so you and future generations can continue enjoying Ohio’s great outdoors.

Here are 5 simple ways to RV sustainably and responsibly:

  1. Pack it in. Pack it out.

Bring “green” containers, reuseable grocery bags, and refillable water bottles. At the end of your trip, thoroughly check your campsite for any debris. Trash and debris not only have a negative impact on the next visitors to the campground, but these also harm wildlife, create health risks for future guests, and increase the risk of fires.

2. Recycle Right.

Set up a small bin in your RV for plastic bottles, aluminum cans, glass, and cardboard. Many Ohio campgrounds and state parks provide recycling options for visitors including public recycling bins or dumpsters. Some locations may even offer specialized recycling options such as fishing line recycling. Before your trip, check directly with the campground or park, especially private ones, to learn what recycling options are available.

3. Use Eco-Friendly Supplies.

Choose biodegradable and non-toxic soaps, shampoos, personal products, cleaners, dishwashing liquid, etc. Look for products that are marked safe for septic systems and waterways. Products that are not sustainable like these can release toxic chemicals and microplastics which contaminate rivers, lakes and drinking water sources.

4. Conserve Energy & Water.

Turn off lights when not in use, fix any leaky faucets, and use energy-efficient appliances whenever possible. Energy and water conservation while RVing helps to protect natural water resources, minimizes air pollution, preserves the local ecosystem, and saves you costs.

5. Secure Your Load.

Before hitting the road at the end of your trip, make sure your gear, supplies, and any trash you must take with you are properly tied down. This will ensure you avoid roadside litter and helps keep Ohio beautiful!
