RV Maintenance Checklist

Engine Maintenance

With many RVs hulking in size and traveling long distances, the engine is sure to take on a lot of stress. Additionally, many RVs are in storage during the winter, meaning there’s zero motion whatsoever for months on end. Routine maintenance is key for keeping your RV engine in good health:

  • Check the battery: RV batteries generally last for three to five years, but you should check your battery’s charge before every trip and ensure it is fully charged at all times.
  • Get an oil change: You might not have to change the oil as frequently compared to a vehicle that you use everyday, though it’s recommended to do so every 3,000 to 4,000 miles or once a year.
  • Filter inspection and replacement: Filters are an essential part of your RV engine as they keep multiple parts clean. When you change your oil, you should also inspect the air, fuel, coolant and hydraulic filters and replace them if need be.

Roof Inspection

The roof of your RV can take a beating from the elements, especially if it isn’t properly cared for. We suggest keeping your roof covered when you can, cleaning it frequently and be on the lookout for leaks. If you’re having any issues, RCD RV offers roof maintenance, repair and replacement service near Columbus.

Check Wheels, Tires, Brakes, and Seals

Just like any vehicle, it’s important to stay on top of the condition of your wheels, tires and brakes. Schedule brake service and check tire pressure regularly in order to ensure you’re traveling safely at all times.

Grime and debris can build up in your RV’s slide-out rails, which can cause improper sealing, leading to rust and corrosion. Clean and lubricate the rails twice a year, any time you hear a strange sound or if they fail to work properly.
